How I squeeze more playtime out of a dying battery
Nothing ruins a long session like watching your battery percentage drop faster than your progress. Over years of testing I've landed on a handful of tweaks that genuinely help, and none of them require a special app.
First, the frame rate. A lot of games default to 60fps or higher, and most of them look fine at a lower cap. Dropping it is usually the single biggest win for battery life, especially in RPGs and racers. Check the graphics settings before you blame the game.
Second, brightness. Auto-brightness is lazy about dark scenes, so for moody games I set it manually and go lower. In something like a shadowy adventure it even looks better. Third, kill background sync while you play — not strictly a game setting, but notifications waking the screen cost you.
None of this is dramatic on its own. Stack three or four of them together, though, and you can get a noticeable extra stretch out of a single charge. Worth doing before a flight.
