Emberfall Saga

Emberfall Saga is the kind of mobile RPG you don't expect to lose an evening to, and then you do. You build a party of four, poke at a skill web, and crawl through hand-drawn regions that gradually open up. The writing has more character than most, with side quests that occasionally land a joke.

Combat is turn-based but quick, and you can speed battles up once you know what you're doing. The menus for gear and skills are where it gets busy — there's a lot to tap through, and on a small screen it occasionally feels cramped. We'd recommend turning on the auto-sort option early.

Battery-wise it's heavier than a casual game, no surprise there, but you can lower the frame cap in settings and buy yourself a good chunk of extra playtime. Worth it if you like actual role-playing on the go.
